Dolly Parton is known for her fantastic songwriting ability and her signature vocals but above all this she is a business lady, a very good one. For years she has tried her hand at a number of creative projects and had her fingers in many different kinds of pies. Now for the first time, one of those projects is coming to life in the West End in London as 9 to 5 the musical gets reimagined at the Savoy Theatre. The musical which was adapted from the film, which was adapted from the book, will star Louise Redknapp, Amber Davies, Natalie McQueen and Brian Conley. Dolly is said to be overseeing a lot of the creative decisions and in an interview she did with This Morning a few weeks back teased a return to the UK to “join in the festivities.”
9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL tells the story of Doralee, Violet and Judy – three workmates pushed to boiling point by their sexist and egotistical boss. Concocting a plan to kidnap and turn the tables on their despicable supervisor, will the girls manage to reform their office – or will events unravel when the CEO pays an unexpected visit?
Dolly Parton starred as Doralee Rhodes in the original film which was released in 1980 and the musical opened on Broadway in 2009 with new songs written by Parton added to the production. This limited run in the West End is long overdue and a must see for any Country/Dolly Parton fan, feminists, musical theatre lovers and… well pretty much anyone with a sense of humour!
