It's always a pleasure to catch up with Sarah Darling and to see her back once again at SummerTyne Americana Festival up in Gateshead! She was keen to chat to us about her latest album Wonderland and what's next!

Since we last spoke you've released a new album Wonderland, can you tell me about the process of writing and recording that record?

Yes, oh my goodness I can't believe it's out! First of all it's one of the sweetest rel...

I expected good things from Lauren Alaina at SummerTyne Americana Festival but she lived up to my expectations and flew beyond them with her eclectic and energetic set. I've seen artists do some good covers and even some good mashups but Lauren Alaina took it to a new level not to mention the iconic original material that sandwiched it, Ladies in the 90's, Road Less Travelled and singing solo the duet Lauren and Kane brown too...

SummerTyne Americana Festival in Gateshead is always one of the highlights of the year. Out of all the festivals I go to each year, this is the friendliest! This year started with a treat, a Grammy award winning treat as on the Friday night in a packed out Sage One KD Lang was continuing her "Ingenue" 25th anniversary tour. She was supported by one half of the Gregorian Brothers he was an excellent guitar instrumentalist, it w...

Every year around mid-July I now head on up to the Sage in Gateshead for a weekend of Americana and Country Music. The thing I love most about this festival is the people, the staff at the Sage are so friendly and accommodating which makes it a really nice atmosphere for fans, press and artists alike! The sound is excellent, the building is so well designed and the engineers are great at their jobs making it my favourite venue...

For much of Day 3 I was off interviewing artists but I still got to soak up the festival atmosphere as I had more of the great street food on offer and tried the special ales put on for the festival whilst I sat outside with my family in the sun listening to some great bands including the CD Wallum Trio. I was particularly impressed by Georgie who played the concourse stage at 1pm, her lyrics were great and she seemed to have...

Day 2 of SummerTyne started off at the Concourse stage for me at 1pm when Melanie Greggain and her band took to the stage. A large crowd had gathered round and more mooched around outside in the sun which had put in an appearance! Some of you may remember Mel as being one half of the Country duo Luke and Mel who did great things in the UK Country scene but out on her own now Mel is still writing fantastic songs and taking a la...

SummerTyne Americana Festival started off rather soggy this year as the heavens opened chasing everyone, artists and fans, inside. The indoor Concourse stage which wasn’t supposed to kick off until 6pm hosted the artists that should have been on the Jumping Hot Stage situated outside. It was a testament to the great organisational skills of the staff at Sage who got everything swiftly reorganised and running smoothly without m...

First of all, you’re well known for playing a songwriter in the programme Nashville but how have you found the transition from being an actor into releasing your own music?

It’s a really nice transition, music has been a part of my life since I was tiny, I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember. To have been lucky enough to have been on the show Nashville has given me this fantastic platform to write music, to crea...

Summertyne Americana Festival is unlike any other festival out there today. Last year was my first year and I was greeted by friendly staff and a stellar line up of talent, some of whom had flown under my radar but they blew me away after the three days. Set in and around Sage Gateshead the festival uses both of the Halls - Sage One and Sage Two as well as a stage in the cafe area and on the concourse outside. Furthermore, and...

One of the most interesting and outspoken singer-songwriters in Country music today is Angaleena Presley. That is what I love about her, her songs are filled with witty lyrics and subtle little digs at the music industry which could in the hands of the wrong writer come across as whining however the way Angaleena carefully crafts each lyric and how she tells the stories behind the songs live on stage has the audience in...
