Stella Parton discusses her 40th studio album!

Stella Parton has had a long and successful career in the music industry and I was keen to chat to her after she released her 40th studio album back in September. Though her music may not be as well known as her sister Dolly's, it is full of truth and humour and has secured her a large and devoted fanbase. Her longevity in the industry is not just thanks to the quality of her songwriting but also her bubbly personality and engagement with her fans. An avid cook, Parton recently appeared on BBC's Celebrity Masterchef but prior to this she has written three cook books where she shares her favourite recipes. I was keen to talk to her about all the things that were important to her, everything f

Willie Watson talks about his influences and how his music's changed since Old Crow Medicine Sho

Last week I caught up with founding member of Old Crow medicine Show Willie Watson who is touring the UK in January. He's released a couple of albums since going solo and I was keen to find out more about the singer and his plans for the future! Can you remember the moment when you first decided, this is what I want to do for a living? I had interest in playing music from a pretty young age but it wasn't fully realised yet. I would pick up a broomstick or tennis racket and dance around my bed singing along to songs on the radio. I would set up a blanket on the floor and that was the stage and my brother had a music stand because he took violin lessons and I would tape a magic marker to the t

Brett Young's Ticket to L.A. tops the album charts!

Brett Young is back with a number one record! Yes Ticket to L.A. has just gone to number one on the Billboard top Country albums chart! It deserves the top spot, being one of the best records released this year, in my opinion. At the album playback at Big Machine I looked around the room to see most people nodding and tapping along with a contented smile on their faces and since it’s release social media has been buzzing with positive thoughts about the record. Produced by Dan Huff and co-writers such as Nicolle Galyon, Shane McAnally, Hillary Lindsey and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley to name a few involved with the project it was destined to be a success! Here’s a track by track review o

Logan Mize discusses his influences and writing with Chris Stapleton!

Logan Mize is a fairly new name to me but an artist who I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of over the coming months! Drawing influence from a range of different genres Logan's music has caused industry folk to stop and listen and many occasions. He signed a publishing deal with Big Yellow Dog shortly after moving to Nashville and has supported the likes of Leann Rimes and Lady Antebellum. His single Better Off Gone has been streamed over 18 million times and has been added to numerous major playlists across Spotify and Apple Music. I was excited to chat with the Kansas native and find out a little more about him! You come from a very musical family, but can you tell me about the moment you

The Overtones Dazzle the Manchester Crowd!

I didn’t know what to expect when I was tasked with going to the Bridgewater Hall to review The Overtones, I knew a little about the group but had never seen them live before. I had guessed that it would be an emotional event with the loss of their lead singer still fresh in the mind but since then they have released their sixth studio album on an independent label and I was keen to see how the events of the past year would impact on their performance. I was a little outside of my comfort zone, I’m used to mainly covering Country events but I knew they had good voices and sang good songs so I was keen to check them out regardless. It was clear as they walked out that for most people in the c

Who are the 2019 CMA Songwriters?

Once again the CMA Songwriters Series is back the night before Country 2 Country in March 2019 and once again it boasts a stellar line-up! As always there are a few familiar names such as Cam and Jimmie Allen, two artists who have been over to the UK in the past few months or so but like always the names that catch my eye are the writers behind the hits, more often than not people look at the line up and think “I’ve never heard of him/her” but there are two names in particular that jumped out at me and they are Ross Copperman and Laura Veltz and though you may not have heard of them, you will most definitely have heard of their songs! So lets see shall we? Here’s a who’s who of the 2019 CMA
