Anticipation builds as Jerry Leger brings 'Donlands' to Manchester
Canadian singer-songwriter Jerry Leger makes a much-anticipated return to the UK with his band The Situation for shows in May, giving audiences the first opportunity to savour live, tracks from his acclaimed new album Donlands, out now on Latent Recordings. Leger, who is building a growing fanbase on these shores, will play in Manchester on Sunday night at The Castle Hotel in Manchester on the penultimate night of his 12 date tour.
The UK run is part of a European tour which also takes in The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
Leger recently released the music video for his latest single, “Out There Like The Rain” off the latest album.
“Out There Like The Rain” marries Dan Mock’s moog synth and Aaron Goldstein’s pedal steel to lay the foundations for the Canadian’s dreamy vocals. Americana Highways said the song was in “John Lennon territory” whilst Americana UK praised the production. The video was produced by Joshua Parrett, with additional footage from Katie Methot and sees a cutout of Leger and various cityscapes overlaid onto an animated backdrop.
Speaking about the new video, Leger said: "Joshua Parrett put together a surrealistic video for "Out There Like The Rain" that captures the song's mood beautifully. The recording has what I think is my best vocal performance so far."
On Donlands, Leger teamed up with producer Mark Howard (Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Neil Young) whose trademark atmospheric sound adds an entirely new dimension to his approach. Named after the street in Toronto’s east end where it was recorded, in what once was the Donlands Theatre, the album presents Jerry Leger as he’s never been heard before.
